She looked at me and asked me if I believed in God. I was shocked. I took a moment to take stock of the situation: an old lady Ecuadorian me ask philosophical questions. I had just crawled through lava tubes and flashlights returned to her. And oh yes, I was on the Galapagos Islands. I was on my vacation.
I like to think I had an experience different from others on the Galapagos Islands. From what I saw, most people visit the Galapagos Islands with travel agencies. These agencies will organize everything for visitors - providing guides, transportation and daily activities. People can choose something from boat trips to hotels based excursions.
I chose these two options.
It is incredibly difficult to back around the Galapagos Islands. It's incredible, I managed to do so. And more importantly, I saw another side of the Galapagos Islands. Tourists come to see various species of plants and animals. I saw people. I talked to people. Ecuadorians. I had the experience of Ecuador's Galapagos Islands.Even people who were on vacation, I saw speak Spanish, preferring (like me) to choose their own path and to, from, and on the islands. Tourism foreigners were equally inaccessible to me as I was for them. I found myself in the fortunate position of not having a travel agency between me and the local population....
