We have been to Cancun and the Grand Caymans. Will Cozumel be good? I read that the hurricanes have really messed up the reefs and diving is not enjoyable. True?

You will have a great time diving in Cozumel. I was in Cozumel in April and then back in late August. The shallow reefs that are used for snorkeling mostly are a bit messed up, but the deeper reefs are just fine. The main problem we had in August was

How is it scuba diving in Playa del Carmen? Is it much better in Cozumel?

I was planning a vacation in one of these places with my husband, and he would like to go scuba diving (I don't have the license). Anyway, I was wondering if Cozumel is much better than Playa del Carmen for that purpose.

Cozumel is actually only 12 miles off the coast from Playa Del Carmen so the boats basically go to the same dive areas. Cozumel is very quiet and low key while there is a little bit more action at Playa Del Carmen. It's really whichever you prefer.

The island of Cozumel is only 12 miles (19 km) off the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and 44 miles (71 km) south of Cancun. For years, Cozumel was a sleepy island that did not sleep many visitors until Jacques Cousteau did a documentary on him after the discovery of the diving world-class reefs near Palancar . Since 1961, Cozumel was recognized as one of the best destinations for scuba diving in the world. In fact, for decades, since that time the only tourists visiting the island have been mainly divers. Mainstream tourists went to the resort of Cancun on the mainland intensive instead.However, Cozumel became a regular cruise ship port of call in recent years and today it is one of the busiest with two separate terminals.
